 Grading Policy

With the school’s electronic grade book program, it is easy to keep track of your child’s grades in every subject. It is highly encouraged for both students and parents to take advantage of this opportunity.

Completing work on time is part of being responsible and is necessary for effective learning. Assignments must be turned in on the day they are due. Any late assignment will receive a 10% reduction in points. Assignments turned in 5 or more days late receive only ½ credit. There is no credit if assignments are two or more weeks late.

6th Grade is the first year students may participate in sports and thus have the added responsibility now of maintaining weekly eligibility. Both my webpage and the online grade book assist students with organization and allow them to take control of their own eligibility status by keeping current with grades and assignments. If a student should have a missing assignment and/or a zero affecting his/her grade, it is the student’s responsibility to make sure it is turned in by noon on Monday to ensure that the teacher has time to grade the assignment and enter it in the grade book before Tuesday’s eligibility reporting. Late assignments turned in after noon on Monday will not be accepted for immediate eligibility purposes; however, the student may still receive late-credit, just not in time for Tuesday’s reporting.

Homework is listed on the board in my classroom for students to copy into a planner, and it is also available for viewing on my web page. A variety of important links for homework assignments, spelling lists, vocabulary lists, rubrics, etc. are located on my web page. Remember that homework and documents for only the core classes I teach will appear on my web page and classroom white board. It is the student’s responsibility to check in with other teachers to see how each homework system is organized.

 Classroom Expectations- R3

Be Respectful

1. Students will be courteous to each other and show respect toward all other students and adults at all times. Students will use “please” and “thank you” whenever appropriate. No cursing, teasing, or hateful comments.

2. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself. Physical contact of any kind is not permitted. This applies to serious contact, as well as, “horse play.” Also, nothing will go airborne in class at any time.

Be Responsible

1. Come to class prepared to work. Journals, binders and pencils are a requirement for every class. Check to make sure you have the appropriate books, materials and tools before classes start.

2. Follow directions the first time they are given. If you don’t have time to do it right, then you must have time to do it over!

3. Do your best work at all times. Quality work done on time should always be your goal, no matter how big or small the assignment may seem to you.

Be a Role Model

1. Exhibit citizenship. Always reflect a positive attitude and abide by the rules—you never know who may be watching and imitating you!

2. Stand up for what is right. It is what we do, not just something we say. Support your peers and discourage negative behaviors.
